Timed Retrieval

This is perhaps the simplest game we play.

  • The handler has to make two throws of a (safe) object, each at least 20 yards away.  The throwing line and the 20 yard line will be marked.
  • The team is timed on how long it takes the dog to retrieve the object and come back across the starting line.
  • The shortest time wins.
  • If the throw doesn’t quite make it 20 yards, an additional throw may be made to make up for the missing distance.

This is a great game for beginners because the dog doesn’t actually have to catch the object, and the object doesn’t have to be a frisbee — it can be a ball or toy.
