Maximum Time Aloft (MTA)

MTA Teams are allowed 3 attempts to score as many points as possible. The handler and dog may move freely around the field and position themselves anywhere for each attempt. There is no “out-of-bounds.”

The team will earn one point for each second that a thrown disc remains airborne before being caught (calculated to 1/100th of a second). The score keeper will start the clock when the handler releases each disc and will stop the clock as soon as the dog makes contact with the thrown disc. Points are only awarded when the dog successfully catches a thrown disc. No points are awarded if the disc is not caught by the dog before it touches the ground (skips, traps, and rollers will be ruled as no-catch).

The team’s total score is calculated by using the following formula:

  • 1st Attempt + 2nd Attempt + 3rd Attempt + (4 x Best Attempt)

Example:

4.25 + 5.31 + 2.86 + (4 x 5.31) = 33.66
